  • Elementary schools that feed Northwest Middle: Norwood Elementary and West Haven Elementary

Heads Up: Powell Elementary Rezoning (2027–28)

On March 5, 2026, the Knox County Board of Education voted 5-2, with two abstentions, to rezone about 300 students out of overcrowded Powell Elementary.

  • Takes effect: the 2027–28 school year. Families in rezoned areas could transfer early, starting in 2026–27.
  • East side of the Powell Elementary zone: moves to Brickey-McCloud Elementary, which feeds Powell Middle and Powell High.
  • Belltown: moves to Karns Elementary. Belltown is already zoned for Karns High.
  • Amherst Elementary also takes some Powell Elementary students.
  • Middle schools: the plan adjusts the Powell Middle and Karns Middle lines, which KCS said would fix spots where middle and high school zones don't line up.
  • Grandfathering: students can stay at their current school through its last grade, with parents providing transportation.

Bottom line: a Powell zip code does not guarantee Powell High, and the maps change in 2027–28. Always check the exact address with the Knox County Schools zone search before you buy.
